Every foreigner has the opportunity to obtain a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) in Poland. This document certifies the identity and allows to reside in the country temporarily.
A residence card (TRP) gives the ability to cross the country border multiple times, with no necessity of opening a visa.

Types of TRP in Poland

Recently, immigration to Poland has become a more common phenomenon because it is now possible to apply for a TRP immediately upon arrival in the country.

There are several types of TRP that exist in Poland:
Based on employment / internship
  • The employer must provide a work / internship permit in Poland
  • Permit is valid for 3 years, unless the place of work is changed
  • Those having lived in the country with a TRP can apply for a Permanent Residency and consequently a citizenship in Poland
For the purpose of studying in Poland
  • Poland is a country that has a more accessible education compared to other EU countries
  • Throughout the whole process of studying, the TRP is prolonged automatically each year
  • The Polish authorities provide for free studying places for foreigners who have a Pole's Card
For the purpose of starting and operating a business in Poland
  • Permit is given for the period of 8 months, after which the alien resident has the right to prolong the TRP for 1 year
  • Those having lived in the country with a TRP for 5 years can apply for a Permanent Residency in Poland and obtain a European residence card
Blue card
  • Blue card is a type of TRP for the purpose of employment requiring high qualification
  • High qualification is acquired after completing a five-year study in a university
  • Blue card is given for no more than 3 years
Marriage to a Polish citizen
  • The applicant needs to present documental evidence that the marriage is not fictional
  • Those having lived in the country for 3 years with a TRP or for 2 years with a Permanent Residency can apply for obtaining Polish citizenship
For the employment of foreign business travelers
For the purpose of research in scientific activities
For family members of an alien resident who lives in a country with a TRP status
