On November 9, 2000, the Repatriation Act came into force, providing for the assignment of Polish citizenship by descent. A person can claim their rights to a Polish passport under this procedure if their ancestors up to the 4th generation are citizens of Poland or if a person resided before January 1, 2001 in the following countries: Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, the Asian part of the Russian Federation. Those who have confirmed their ethnic kinship with the Polish people are issued a repatriation visa, on the basis of which citizenship and a passport of the state are registered
